Robert Dahlqvist – In charge of his destiny

Robert Dahlqvist Solo Cover

Robert Dahlqvist has been in the rock scene for some time now, performing in a band called The Hellacopters. However, a few years ago he decided that he wants to release something that sounds purely like him. So he created ‘Solo’, his first solo album. I loved this record from the first moment. Although it is sung in Swedish and I do not understand a word, the melodies are so soft and relaxing that I am taken into another world from minute 1. Mostly acoustic or rock’n’roll, the songs carry old school influences and melancholy. This album has quickly become a favourite of mine when I need to unwind. Therefore I thought it would be lovely if I could take a brief interview of Robert, nothing too fancy, but just something for you guys to get to know him. Hopefully you’ll end up enjoying his music as much as I have!

Alexandra: Hey, Robert! First of all, could you give us a brief introduction of who you are and your work in various bands?

Robert: My name is Robert Dahlqvist, 37 years old. I played in a band called The Hellacopters for about 10 years, I’ve done a lot of freelance jobs in Sweden, I had a band called Thunder Express, recorded two album with them, I also had a band I called Dundertåget..recorded two album with them as well.

Is going solo something that has been in your mind for some time now?

Yeah, got sick of playing in a band and wanted to do whatever comes into my mind without other band members complaining all the time.

What were your influences in writing this album?

Nothing actually, I wanted to make an album that sounds like Robert Dahlqvist. Not like Rolling Stones, not KISS, not this or that.. Just like me, Robert Dahlqvist.

I understand it took two years to complete the production of this album. Why did it take so long?

Ive been writing songs for two years, I wanted really really good songs, the recording session was really fast though.

Why is it all written in Swedish? Did you think about making another version of the album in English?

Swedish is my language and I think its more personal and honest if I choose to use my own language. I wanted to be myself.

If you could describe this record in a couple of words, what would they be?

Honest, lovely, sad

You have been in the music industry for some time now! What is the most valuable lesson you have learnt so far?

Haha… take it easy, don’t hesitate. Be nice to people, don’t be a diva!

Will you tour anywhere now that the record is out? If yes, where?

I’m gonna start to tour Sweden early next year and I really hope to tour outside Sweden!!! That would be a dream.

If you could give an advice to people who want to start up a band, what would it be?

Work, work hard and dont give up! Nothing comes for free.

Thank you so much for your time! Any last words you would like to share with our readers?

Be nice or go fuck yourself!
