Tuomas Seppälä (Amberian Dawn) – Creating music without limitations

Category: ArticlesInterviews

A week ago I had a Skype chat with Tuomas, the mind behind Amberian Dawn and managed to pick his brain about ‘Innuendo’, their newest record to be released in a few days, the future tour, his creative process and more. Below you will find our discussion. If you are not familiar with Amberian Dawn, their new music video is also linked at the end of the interview. Enjoy!

Alexandra: Hi Tuomas it’s a pleasure to meet you! Innuendo will be released at the end of the month followed by a tour through Europe with Delain and the Gentle Storm. What are currently your thoughts and feelings about the new record and the upcoming tour?

Tuomas: I’m very excited about releasing this new album...

Song of the week – part 2

Category: ArticlesSong of the week

It’s part 2 of our ‘Song of the week’ choices and, as before, we’d love to hear in the comments what you think of our picks and what songs have been on repeat with you this week!

Manon’s pick(and a favourite of both of us):

This week I’ve been taking a trip down memory lane mostly, as I was listening to tracks from the 80’s and 90’s, together with bands that I used to listen to about six years ago. Yet, the one song that made me dance and sing along, and instantly put me in a better mood, was ‘Lavatory Love Machine’ by Edguy. It was the first song I had ever heard by them, back in the day, and from that moment I was hooked. So please, enjoy this rather comical track, and perhaps you’ll get hooked as well!

Alexandra’s pick:

This week my playlist has mostly been on shuffle...

Dawn of Destiny – To Hell and Back

Category: ArticlesInterviews

Hailing from Germany, the power metal band Dawn of Destiny has released its sixth album ‘To Hell’ about a week ago, on the 2nd of October. ‘To Hell’ is a lovely record, fully conceptual and quite diverse, that I had the chance to listen to before it came out and then managed to catch Jens(bass, piano, backing vocals and growls) for an interview that you can read below. If you are not familiar with Dawn of Destiny but you like what you’ve read, give the song a listen too:

Alexandra: Hi there, thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us! I’m quite curious, how did you come up with the name ‘Dawn of Destiny’?

Jens Faber: The name was a combination of different suggestions mainly Dirk and me. We put some of them together and “Dawn of Destiny” has been developed.

Your sixth a...

Powerwolf @ Doornroosje, Nijmegen – 04.10.2015

Category: ArticlesConcert Reviews

Powerwolf (© Jeroen Steinbruckner)

On Sunday the 4th of October I went to see Powerwolf in Nijmegen at the venue Doornroosje. My friends had bought me a ticket for my birthday, and I must say I was quite excited to see them, even if their newest album did disappoint me a little.

Xandria was the first band to take the stage. The Female fronted Symphonic Metal band surely surprised me. I had heard of the name before, but hadn’t paid much attention to them. Yet, their performance surely changed that. Their songs were unique, both their music and the lyrics. Her voice reminded me of Tarja Turunen, and fitted the music perfectly. The solos they played were crazy and beyond imagination, even though the guitar player made it look like it was so easy...

Song of the week – part 1

Category: Song of the week

While brainstorming about what kind of new articles to bring to the readers of this webzine, a topic called ‘Song of the week’ seemed very appealing! This way, we can introduce you to some new music and we’d love to hear from you in the comments as to what your favourite song of the week has been! So from now on, every Sunday, me and my co-writer Manon will pick two tracks that we really enjoyed during this week!

Manon’s pick:

The song that has been stuck on repeat a lot this week was one by Powerwolf. I haven’t listened much to their newest album yet, but the one track that spiked my interest was surely ‘Armata Strigoi’. To me, it sounds different than the other songs on the album, and different from what they have done in the past as well...

Kamelot @ Lutakko, Jyvaskyla – 29.09.2015

Category: Concert Photography

On Tuesday I had the opportunity to see Kamelot perform live in Lutakko, a small but with amazing sound quality venue. This was the first time I saw them live since the departure of Roy Khan and they had 2 opening bands with them: Kobra and the Lotus and Gus G. . I have heard of both before but never listened to their songs. The whole evening was absolutely amazing and the opening acts did not disappoint! All the artists performed wonderfully and I left home extremely tired and happy! Without further ado, these are the photos I managed to snatch in between jumping and headbanging:
